Bill originally joined the military in 1998 as a Cannon Fire Direction Specialist with C-Battery, 1-108th Field Artillery (PAARNG). In 2002, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania’s Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) as an active-duty U.S. Army Field Artillery Officer.
While on Active-Duty, Bill reached the rank of Captain and served in many complex operations. Early in his career Bill served as a Fires Platoon Leader, Battery Fire Direction Officer, Fires Operations Officer, Transportation (Medium Truck) Platoon Leader and Operations Officer in Korea and Operation Iraqi Freedom 2.5. In 2006, Bill became a member of the only Stryker Brigade Combat Team in the Reserve Component (56 SBCT/ 28 ID) as the Logistics Officer for 1-108 Field Artillery. In 2006, CPT he took command of the only Stryker-based Headquarters Service Battery in the Reserve Component. During his command, HSB/1-108 FA fielded its first Stryker and Battalion level Fire Finder Radar Systems in the National Guard. In 2008, Bill mobilized and deployed with 1-108 Field Artillery in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom FY 09 as the Battle Captain for the Contingency Operating Base (COB) Taji Base Defense Operations Center (BDOC). As the BDOC Battle Captain, Bill was most recently charged with securing over 30 km of perimeter and 30,000 Coalition Forces, Civilians and members of the Iraqi Army where reacting to Indirect Fire Attacks, IED Attacks, RKG and Grenade Attacks, Emergency Vehicle Recoveries (QRF escorts recovery), Small Arms Fire Attacks, Raids, and capturing detainees were normal occurrences.
Bill currently possesses a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree in History and a Master of Science (MS) in Organizational Development and Leadership from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. A 2007 inductee into the National Collegiate Scholar’s Honor Society, and is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) Degree in Organizational Management from Capella University.
Bill’s military awards include the Bronze Star Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (w/ M Device), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal and Overseas Service Ribbon
Bill and his wife Kristine, currently reside in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
