Jack Tymann
Executive Leadership Development Trainer
After a 37-year career at Westinghouse/CBS, Jack Tymann retired in 1999 as the corporation's President, International, when Westinghouse was dissolved. For the past nine years, he has been the President of Smart Partnerships International, and President of Homeland Security Partners, two small consulting groups he founded to facilitate business partnerships and enable small business growth in both the US and in emerging markets. In 2008 Jack co-founded and became Chairman of First Florida Biofuels, LLC. Principal clients of his activities since leaving Westinghouse have included New Generations Biofuels, EPS Holdings LTD, Biofuel Consultants of North America, the WorldSpace Corporation, (global satellite digital radio and multimedia), Globecom Interactive, (high-tech Israeli ISP), Carney Interactive, and Burdeshaw Associates ( DC-based consulting group in defense and homeland security).
While at Westinghouse, Jack built a track record of success in business development in 75 nations worldwide. From 1992 through 1997, he resided in London as President of the Westinghouse/CBS Overseas Corporation, responsible for Westinghouse business development outside the US, including offices in 26 countries, business development in 75 countries - and related customer, corporate, and government relationships, acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic partnerships in the energy, aerospace, telecommunications, civil aviation, media/entertainment, IT, security systems, and software sectors.
During these years, Jack also served as President & Managing Director of the (W) Electric Int'l Company, headquartered in the UK. He led business initiatives that more than doubled (W) revenues in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, the former Soviet Union, and Latin America. He also served as GM of two (W) UK subsidiaries, and as Chairman of (W) Europe, (W) Gulf, and (W) Morocco.
Jack earlier held various key positions in the development of aerospace, defense, and IT systems for commercial, civil, and military applications. In the 1980s, he was General Manager of the AWACS Division, leading (W) into important new markets internationally. He also held General Management positions in the Systems & Radar Surveillance Division, the Airspace Management Systems Division, and the Commercial Systems Division, where he helped pioneer the utilization of defense technologies in FAA, DoT, Security Systems, and other non-defense markets. In the 1970s, he served as Managing Director (W) Iran, while resident in Teheran. He also chaired (W) Strategic Councils on the Middle East, Japan and Russia.
Throughout his management career with Westinghouse, Jack was a respected executive leader in strategic thinking and Total Quality Management initiatives, frequently speaking and training at corporate forums on proven approaches toward improved teamwork and enhanced group efficiencies. Jack is passionate about the power of open communications and common organizational goals as key to group motivation and individual team-member productivity and job satisfaction.
From 1993 to 2001, Jack served on the Egypt-US President's Council (appointed by Presidents Clinton and Mubarak), working as the US Chairperson from 1997 - 1999. This Council advised US and Arab governments on trade issues and policy reforms toward the goal of increased two-way trade and the development of private sector partnerships in the Middle East/North Africa. In this role, Jack worked under the oversight of VP Al Gore, met frequently with top public and private sector officials in the area, and participated in and spoke at seven World Economic Forums in Davos, Switzerland, and throughout the Middle East/North Africa.
Jack currently serves on the BoD and Executive Committee of AMIDEAST, a non-profit entity that for 53 years has been promoting improved education, training, and mutual understanding between the US and the nations of the Middle East/North Africa. AMIDEAST conducts schools in basic management training in seven Arab nations. He has also served on the BoDs of the Saudi Arabia-based Boeing Industrial Technology Group, the Saudi Advanced Electronics Center, WEXICO in Saudi Arabia, the LORWEST Trading Company, (W) Gulf in the UAE, the Americas Partnership in Maryland, the Maryland World Trade Center Institute, and the Baltimore Council on Foreign Affairs.
In 1990, Jack founded and served as Chairman of the Global Air Transportation Systems and Services (GATSS) Consortium, partnering with the Ministry of Civil Aviation in the former Soviet Union, the FAA, and French and Italian firms. He has lectured at Harvard and at George Mason on doing business in Russia and the Former Soviet Union.
Additionally, Jack is the founder of the Equal Access JV, a public-private non-profit partnership formed to bring vital information, distance learning, and health care education via satellite radio to the under-served regions of Africa and other emerging markets.
Currently Jack is an oped writer/commentator for Newsbalance.com, for RedCounty.com, and for the Naples Daily News, a frequent guest lecturer throughout SW Florida, and a regular guest on Naples FM Talk Radio,. Jack writes and speaks about issues related to national security, including the need for energy independence, the survival of free enterprise, global jihad, and illegal immigration. On these subjects, he is a voice calling for an involved populace, common national goals, a balanced media, and civil discourse amongst our elected officials.
A registered professional engineer, Jack received his BSEE from Manhattan College and has completed the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. He has also completed international studies at the Brookings Institute and at INSEAD in France. Jack is married for 46 years to the former Lucille Poling. They have four married children and ten grandchildren, and reside in Pelican Bay in Naples, Florida.
